As Mississauga has evolved, we’ve been fortunate to have strong leadership, a vibrant economic base, and a community that’s shown passion and pride – all of which are key ingredients to building a great city. Yet the process of city-building never ends. Mississauga’s rich past is transforming into an even brighter future.
Guided by our Strategic Plan we measure the impact of our work in the community through an annual progress report. The success of our strategic plan implementation is measured by the level of transformation and energy that we are able to see, feel and hear all around us as Mississauga becomes a more energetic city that attracts people, jobs and opportunities.
The impact of our work provides the community with being a location of destinations not only for our residents and newcomers to Canada, but for international visitors and businesses and in doing so enhancing the city’s economic well-being. Through a variety of events and festivals supported by a vibrant downtown and a spectacular waterfront we are enriching people’s lives through arts, culture and heritage. We are fostering active lifestyles for all ages and abilities through our many recreational opportunities and active transportation programs. In our communities we implement accessible programming options to engage and reduce barriers for those who face them to ensure that we remain an inclusive City.
Our city provides well-established infrastructure supported by quality municipal programs and services within a healthy and sustainable environment providing a City and atmosphere where people choose to be.

The Firelight Group is a consulting and research firm that primarily serves indigenous communities. We are a majority indigenous-owned, woman-owned business that has been around since 2009, and our business has thrived primarily due to relationship building and word of mouth from our customers. We’ve had over 250 clients, worked on over 1k projects, and done work from coast to coast to coast. One of the biggest differences between us and people doing similar work is that we are not only indigenous-led but directly accountable to communities - it’s important to us that communities invite us to work on their behalf and determine the parameters of that work, and that they ultimately have the ability to hire and fire us themselves, as many other researchers from academia and non-profits end up doing research ‘on’ these communities rather than ‘with’ or ‘for’ them. We work with Indigenous and local communities in Canada and beyond to provide high quality research, policy, planning, mapping, negotiation, and advisory services. Our work focuses on culture, health, socio-economics, ecology, and governance to support the rights and interests of Indigenous communities.
