NCASI (www.ncasi.org) is a non-profit environmental research institute that seeks to create credible scientific information required to address the environmental information needs of the forest products industry in North America, and to gain insight into opportunities for further improvement in meeting their sustainability goals. NCASI undertakes primary research, conducts applied technical studies, provides technical advice to industry and governments, and sponsors scientific research by universities and others to document the environmental performance of manufacturing and forest management, including both contemporary practices and management alternatives. Our more than 75 years of experience in undertaking studies that characterize environmental aspects of the forest products industry provides us with a unique lens on the sector’s environmental aspects, including the interface of the sector’s operations with wildlife and biodiversity, watersheds and wetlands, air quality and climate, chemicals management, and other aspects associated with sustainable forest management. NCASI is currently recognized as the leading source of reliable data on environmental issues that pertain to forest products. In addition, NCASI has collaborated with a range of organizations, including the Forest Solutions Group of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank (IFC), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the International Council of Forest and Paper Associations (ICFPA), and the World Resources Institute (WRI).
