The Mattagami Region Conservation Authority is a community-based environmental protection agency that has been actively involved in the management and protection of our watershed resources for over 50 years. Our goal is to make sure we have a healthy environment in which to work and play both now and in the years to come. The MRCA also serves as a recreational park and trail facilitator by developing, maintaining, and promoting a first class park and trail system throughout the City of Timmins, as well as providing conservation information and education to residents

Company History

The 1960 Mattagami River flood and 1961 Town Creek flood led to the loss of life and extensive property damage. As a result, the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority was established in 1962 as the Mattagami Valley Conservation Authority. It was in 1974, with the amalgamation of the City of Timmins, that the MRCA grew to its current size. Athough its focus early on was on flooding issues, our program today has expanded to include water management, land management, recreation and conservation education

Company Facts

Conservation Authorities are mandated to ensure the conservation, restoration and responsible management of Ontario’s water, land and natural habitats through programs that balance human, environmental and economic needs. The Mattagami Region Conservation Authority also has a key role in providing recreational open space and trails, conservation information, and education to the residents and visitors to our watershed.
