Sasamat Outdoor Centre (SOC) is a member of the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of British Columbia, a non-profit community-based organization est. in 1894. SOC is a summer camp, outdoor education centre and community rental facility. During the summer, SOC serves children ages 4-17 years of age through a variety of day camp and overnight programs. Our activities and programs are outdoors based, and focus on promoting the values of inclusion, compassion, and environmental stewardship.
SOC promotes environmental stewardship and physical/mental health through our programming. It is our belief that children will best form a positive relationship with the natural world through play, so this is the environment we strive to create. We understand that if we are successful, children will in turn carry this positive association forward and potentially develop a will to respect and preserve the natural world. All our programming takes place outside; it introduces children to the forest, lake and ocean through engaging activities such as canoeing, kayaking, hiking, swimming, nature exploration activities and campfires. We also understand that time spent outdoor boosts ones physical and mental health and wellbeing. Children and youth face increasing challenges in todays society, and time outdoors removed from technology is the experience we offer our participants.
SOC is a progressive and socially responsible non-profit organization dedicated to the growth of individuals and families, and to the development of communities. SOC focuses on creating respectful, inclusive environments that provide memorable experiences in a natural setting. SOC believes that quality camp and outdoor experiences are fundamental to positive growth and development.

The Troutreach Saskatchewan component within the SWF is a program specifically aimed at training university students in fisheries and wildlife research and enhancing public understanding of science and the natural world through outreach education. To these ends, Troutreach initiates conservation projects of importance to local peoples that would otherwise not be conducted.
