Indigenous Voices

Indigenous Peoples are Canada’s original forest and conservation professionals, and today, they shape every facet of the sector.

The stories below profile both established Indigenous professionals in the forest and conservation sector and young people who have just begun their green career pathway. They’ve tried different jobs, studied at various levels, and had diverse experiences that have led them to where they are today.

Kaylon Quachegan-Edwards – Moose Cree First Nation

Kaylon Quachegan-Edwards Moose Cree First Nation Participant, Outland Youth Employment Program Dream Job: Detective or Social Worker Kaylon said she loved making new friends during her Green Job in 2021. She tree planted and did chores at the Outland Youth Employment Program. In 2021, she was still in high school, but she plans to attend college to pursue her dream of becoming either a detective or social worker.

Ava Edwards Taykwa Tagamou Nation Participant, Outland Youth Employment Program Dream Job: Accountant Ava said she loved being outdoors all day for her Green Job in 2021. She also planted trees and did chores while following safety precautions at the Outland Youth Employment Program. In 2021, she planned to attend college to study accounting.
