We are a design-led collective that seeks to create spaces, experiences and stories that support individual and community wellbeing, healing, and understanding in the Old Massett Community on Haida Gwaii.

We do so primarily through our strengths in Integrated Design (including architecture and landscape archi.), Arts, and New Media.

In that process, we are committed to engagement, co-design, and co-creation with local communities in Old Massett. Our programmes bridge individual and communal wellbeing, while our designs enhance, and not replace, inherent natural, physical and cultural assets of the place.

Company History

Part I: Acknowledge Our Past

For over 150 years, since the inauguration of the Dominion of Canada, the rights and freedoms of Indigenous and Minority Peoples in Canada have been made subservient to a dominant system of ruling hierarchies. The impact of colonization has rippled across economic, environmental, and social systems throughout the country. Past events such as Small Pox Pandemic, Residential Schools and the Sixties Scoop have caused physical, psychological and economic disparities that persist for generations within Indigenous communities. As a result, the impact of inter-generational trauma within these communities require collaboration between the highest level’s of government and grass-roots organizations. Therefore, we are committed to do the work towards reconciliation and holistic well-being by cultivating reciprocal and transformative relationships with our selves and with each other.

Part II:
A series of design courses were held in 2017, 2018 and 2020 at UBC’s School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture that examined design through the lens of decolonization and reconciliation. These courses exposed students to Haida Gwaii in terms of its remarkable physical, cultural and spiritual landscapes.

Part III
In 2018, our co-founder Annie Liang presented her Harvard Masters of Landscape Architecture thesis to the Council of the Haida Nation—beginning a series of conversations with Band Council members, Chiefs and community members. Eudaemonia Network was born out of these conversations to support the realization of the visions, needs and actions identified by community. Reconciliation in the context of regenerative development takes tremendous amount of work and time. Building trust within the community means creating reciprocal relationships and conscious acts of care.
