Dendron Forestry Services is an forestry consulting firm that specializes in urban forestry in the Ottawa region. At Dendron, we are passionate about practicing responsible and sustainable forest management and have an appreciation for the importance that trees have in our communities. We provide services that not only help implement good forestry practices, but also help communicate them out to the public or other target audiences. Sometimes small measures taken during a particular project can go a long way in both long term tree survival and community collaboration.

Company History

Dendron Forestry Services was established by Astrid Nielsen, Principal, in 2016. Aside from some projects with partners or subcontractors, Astrid is currently the only employee at Dendron. With recent changes to the City of Ottawa tree by-laws, business has increased, and Astrid is looking for someone to help with a number of tasks. The name “Dendron”, which means tree in Greek (think Dendrology!), is a spin off from where Astrid used to work – Dendron Resource Surveys, also in Ottawa. This company was owned by her father and although the work varied considerably in its 35 years years, it focused mostly on forest inventory and geomatics. Since starting the “new” Dendron in 2016, Astrid has completed over 200 tree reports for clients in Ottawa, developed Emerald Ash Borer strategies for 5 provincial parks, conducted a review of different tree by-laws across Canada, among other exciting and interesting projects.
