Company History

In 2014, Kat Kavanagh (Water Rangers’ Executive Director) helped her father test the water at their family’s cottage in Quebec. After realizing that there was no easy way for the average person to organize and share water quality data like the kind she and her dad were collecting, Kat decided to use her skills as a web designer to help create one. In 2015, Kat and a team of other technologists entered AquaHacking, competed with their idea for Water Rangers, and won. This marked the birth of Water Rangers!

As it turns out, tools like ours were sorely needed. According to the 2020 edition of WWF-Canada’s Watershed Reports, 100 out of 167 sub-watersheds in Canada were considered data-deficient. Our data platform and testkits make it so that this doesn’t have to be the case any longer; with our help, communities can help collect high-quality data and inform decision-making.
