Two Students Can Win a Trip to the SFI Annual Conference Oct. 21 25

September 20, 2019

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is offering to fund two Canadian undergraduate or graduate students studying in the fields of environmental science, natural resources, or sustainability to attend the 2019 SFI annual Conference. Project Learning Tree Canada (PLT Canada) is an initiative of SFI.

Thanks to financial support from several SFI Program Participants and partners, SFI will cover registration, a two-night hotel stay, meals, and up to a $300 travel stipend. In return for the chance to attend, students are asked to bring some aspect of the SFI conference back to their school like an article for a school newsletter, a presentation to a class or student forum, or a blog post.

This year’s SFI Annual Conference theme is Forests of Opportunity. The conference brings together thought leaders and influencers to learn about the opportunities that forests provide—from understanding the conservation benefits of forest certification, to economic opportunities for local communities, to how students can become forest stewards. As an attendee, you will have access to all this and more!

Hear from an impressive lineup of speakers and participate in a wide range of sessions, network with peers, engage with conference-appointed mentors, and make new contacts. Check out the agenda for more details.

How to Enter

Email Rocco Saracina, SFI’s Manager, Conservation Partnership, with the following information:

  • Student name
  • School name
  • Degree being pursued (bachelors, masters) and any specialization (forestry, wildlife management, etc.)
  • What aspect of the SFI annual conference is of particular interest (e.g., certain subject areas, sessions, speakers, or past examples of topics covered)?
  • How do you plan to share your experience back at your school and with other interested colleagues?

Enter today! Contest closes October 4.

“The SFI conference was a great experience. I was able to further understand how forest certification works, while making good contacts in the process. It was extremely helpful to have assigned mentors.”

—Jasmine Slater, University of Toronto, Masters in Forestry

“Thank you for everything at the SFI conference from the networking opportunities to the hospitality. We had a great time.”

—Hina Alam, University of Toronto, Masters in Forestry

All because of one teacher doing one activity with this one little girl. Now imagine the positive impacts 145 million students have made on our environment, thanks to…
