PLT Canada’s Spotify contest winner Jacky Yip wants to pump Zac up!July 29, 2019 Jacky Yip, winner of PLT Canada’s Green Ride Spotify Playlist Contest. “I’m competing in my first bodybuilding contest this fall, and music is super important for my training. When I heard about the Spotify contest, I thought ‘Wow that cross-Canada Green Ride is hardcore!’ So, I decided ‘Strong’ by R3hab & KSHMR would be perfect to keep Zac motivated,” says contest winner Jacky Yip (@JackedJacky on Instagram). The PLT Canada Spotify context was launched in June to inspire green jobs youth to get outside and get Zac Wagman, PLT Canada’s Green Jobs Manager pedaling as he made his way across Canada by bike. He is cycling from Victoria to St. John’s to promote the rewarding careers that exist in the forest, conservation and parks sectors by meeting youth employed in the Green Jobs program and sharing their stories on social media. His journey began on May 13 and he will cover over 8,750 km in four months. “I really like the chorus in the song, because it goes, ‘taking me higher’. It’s in my head when I’m grinding up a steep hill,” Zac says. “Because I don’t actually listen to tunes when I’m riding, it’s great to have that earworm to keep me going.” When Jacky is not at the gym, one of his favourite things to do is go hiking in the woods. He and his partner recently travelled from Toronto to B.C. to do some “awesome” hiking, he says. The Spotify contest opened Jacky’s eyes about the Green Jobs program and showed him that Canada’s forests are not just great for recreation, they are home to great careers. “Getting paid to be outdoors and do things that help our planet is an unbelievable opportunity for Canada’s youth,” he adds. “I know Zac is going to feel great when he finishes. I also want him to know that he is making his mark for a sustainable future where everyone gets the importance of forests and their proper management to fighting climate change,” Jacky says. PLT Canada believe in the values and benefits of sustainably managed forests and the great outdoors and understands the importance of managing our forest resources to support current and future generations of green job workers.
