PLT Canada announces renewed green jobs funding to support youth across Canada

Ottawa, ON – Project Learning Tree Canada (PLT Canada) is pleased to announce renewed funding for its Green Jobs program, providing support to employers hiring youth aged 15-30 in Canada’s forest and conservation sector. 

Through continued support from the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy and key partners, PLT Canada will deliver both short-term job placements and long-term internships, helping young people gain hands-on experience while building pathways into meaningful green careers.  

• Short-Term Green Jobs, supported with funding from Parks Canada, are positions within the forest, parks, and conservation sector and can run for 4-16 weeks. 

• Long-Term Internships, delivered with funding from Natural Resources Canada’s Science and Technology Internship Program (STIP), are positions in the natural resource sector and STEM fields and can run 16-48 weeks. This renewed funding is thanks to the Government of Canada’s recent announcement of $30 million to support 900 jobs and training opportunities for youth through STIP – Green Jobs. 

Together, these programs will support more than 770 youth placements in the forest and conservation sector over the next two years.

PLT Canada’s programs and resources directly support young people across Canada in accessing meaningful work experiences, while strengthening Canada’s forest and conservation sector. Since 2018, PLT Canada has supported the placement of youth in over 8,700 Green Jobs across the country, consistently supporting 50% women and 15% Indigenous youth in placements, and working with a network of over 470 employers.
