Carmelina Buda, Assistant Forestry Planner, City of Brampton, and Student, University of Toronto
Hello everyone, my name is Carmelina Buda. I am currently pursuing a Master of Forest Conservation at the University of Toronto, with a strong passion in urban forestry. Alongside my studies, I have been working with the City of Brampton, where I am gaining hands-on field experience. I am eager to continue my career in urban forestry while connecting and learning with professionals and peers in the forestry community!
Stephanie Horsfield, RPF, Forestry Field Engineer, Capacity Forest Management Ltd.
Stephanie Horsfield is a Registered Professional Forester with a background in forestry, fish and wildlife. Originally from Ontario, she earned diplomas in Forestry Technician and Fish and Wildlife Technician from Fleming College before completing her Forestry degree at the University of New Brunswick through a transfer program. Now based in British Columbia, Stephanie works as a Forestry Field Engineer across both the interior and coastal regions of the province. Her work centers on sustainable forest management, with a strong passion for conservation, hands-on forestry, and environmental stewardship. She has valued the opportunity to collaborate with First Nations on a variety of forestry initiatives. Outside of work, Stephanie can be found outdoors, usually hiking and backpacking, always seeking the next adventure.
Matthew Syvenky, Habitat Restoration Technician, Echo Ecological, and Student, Simon Fraser University
Matthew Syvenky (he/him) is a fifth-year honours undergraduate student at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC. Majoring in Resource and Environmental Management, Matthew has had the pleasure to study and work on landscapes across Metro Vancouver and the Cariboo region. Matthew currently works part-time as an ecological restoration technician in Metro Vancouver. Some of Matthew’s greatest passions involve invasive species management, hiking, and scuba diving.
Meagan “Meg” Hanna, Director of Urban and Community Forestry for Canada
Meg is working with a network of urban and community forestry leaders to establish the new SFI Urban and Community Forest Improvement Program. Part of her work involves promoting certification to the SFI Urban and Community Forest Sustainability Standard with municipalities, Indigenous communities, underserved communities, health care institutions, school campuses, and corporations. Meg also supports the SFI Career Pathways Program in Canada to increase green job opportunities for all in the urban forestry and forestry sectors.
