Kawartha Land Trust (KLT) is a regional charitable land trust based in Peterborough Ontario. Our mission is to conserve the natural and cultural heritage and distinctive landscapes of the Kawartha Bioregion. We do this by accepting donations of ecologically-significant lands and by engaging the community in support of this work through gifts of time and money to ensure those lands are cared for, in perpetuity. We work closely with community groups, government agencies, and individual landowners to identify and protect key properties and features in the Region. We also help people learn more about the ecological, social and economic benefits of land conservation and encourage them to become involved this important work.

Established in 2001, KLT has evolved into a robust and dynamic organization with a strong regional presence. KLT’s work is focused on private land conservation, and complements the mandates and activities of other organizations and agencies in the area, including municipal, provincial and federal governments, conservation authorities, and other NGOs.
Kawartha Land Trust protects 17 properties comprising 4,101 acres of important, diverse types of land, and assists in the management of 5 additional properties. We manage that land for ecological integrity and for the opportunity that it presents to engage the community in land conservation. We maintain 31 km of trails on our properties and actively manage habitat on hundreds of acres of land.
KLT relies on a large volunteer base of committed experts, community leaders, and a small staff team to accomplish its land securement and stewardship role in the community. Continuing to build community ‘buy in’ to our conservation vision is important to grow our impact. Volunteer stewardship events, guided walks, workshops and one-on-one visits with landowners are ways that we will continue to ensure that the community understands and is engaged in the process of permanently protecting our landscape.
For more information on the Kawartha Land Trust and to consider further if you may be a fit for this opportunity, see KLT’s website, online/media or social media presence.
