Mission: To empower our community with just and actionable solutions to the climate crisis through education, policy development and systems change.
Vision: We envision a place-based community that has achieved a just transition to a circular economy and thriving living systems.
Squamish CAN is a grassroots non-profit organization established in 2009 dedicated to local climate action. Squamish CAN is often described as the centre point for many initiatives involving community partners to reach a common goal. During our many years of operations, we have achieved and been a part of several pivotal changes in Squamish. More than ever, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for a resilient local food system to feed our community and nourish our wellbeing. In addition to transportation and zero-waste initiatives, one of our strategic priorities is to create a resilient food system in Squamish and the Sea-to-Sky Corridor. Currently, our organization consists of four full-time staff members, five part-time staff members, a Board of Directors, and hundreds of volunteers. Our programs directly serve all community members by working collaboratively with our many community partners such as: District of Squamish, School District 48, Squamish Lillooet Regional District, Go By Bike Week and many more.
We manage many physical spaces in Squamish including:
– 3 Edible Schoolyard Gardens
– 4 Community Gardens
– 1 Community Farm (with 3 farmers)
– 1 School Farm
