Photo and video contest giveaway terms and conditions

1. INTERPRETATION:

 “Contest” means the prize giveaway called the Photo and Video Giveaway, as further described herein;

Contest Rules” means these rules and any other requirements of law;

PLT CANADA” means Project Learning Tree Canada;

SFI” means the Sustainable Forestry Initiative;

“Prize” means :

  1. One complimentary Visa card dependent on the winning bracket and medium submitted (finer details provided below in section 4).
  2. A voucher to purchase an assortment of PLT Canada branded goods ($50 value).

Participant” means an individual who has entered the Contest, as further described herein.

2. ELIGIBILITY:

The Contest is open to residents of Canada 18-30 years of age. Employees, agents or a mandatory of either PLT CANADA, PLT or SFI (and those with whom they are domiciled) are not eligible to participate in the Contest or win the Prize. Entries may not be made in the name of a minor.  An unlimited number of total entries in this Contest are available. 

3. HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST:

To enter the Contest, participants must submit an eligible photo or video following the prompts and form on the submission page here:

  1. photo(s) and/or video(s) must be taken within 2020/2021 time frame. 
  2. photo(s) and/or video(s) must be directly uploaded to PLT Canada website.

4. THE PRIZE AND APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUE:

Photo Contest

  • There are 20 winners in total: 5 winners per photo category in the ‘Youth Outdoors’ Theme (15 in total) and 5 winners for the ‘Green Jobs’ Theme. 
  • There will be giveaway tiers with the big item going to the contest winner and 4 other smaller giveaways going to 4 selected entrants
    (runner up 1, runner up 2, runner up 3, popular vote)
  • The Popular vote – participants will be asked to select 4 winners out of 12 photos (3 per category) that did not win in the first round. They will be asked to vote on Instagram until 11:59 pm on Friday (see the section below).

The retail value of prizes is:

  • $250 VISA gift card for grand photo winner + $50 PLT Canada merchandise gift card
  • $100 VISA gift card for all 4 runner-up photo winners + $50 PLT Canada merchandise gift card

Video Contest

  • There are 16 winners in total: 4 winners per video category in the ‘Youth Outdoors’ Theme (12 in total) and 4 winners for the ‘Green Jobs’ Theme. 
  • There will be giveaway tiers with the big item going to the contest winner and 4 other smaller giveaways going to 4 selected entrants
    (runner up 1, runner up 2, runner up 3, popular vote)

The retail value of prizes is:

  • $400 VISA gift card for grand video winner + $50 PLT Canada merchandise gift card
  • $250 VISA gift card for the three runner-up video winners + $50 PLT Canada merchandise gift card

5. WINNER SELECTION:

Chances of winning depend on the number of Participants.

Between Oct. 4 and Oct. 17, 2021, a review panel will gather to review all the submissions. The review panel will be composed of PLT Canada, PLT and SFI staff members, they will work together to choose the best images and media clips based on creativity, skills, match to category context, and eligibility requirements. PLT Canada will contact the initial winners by emailing them within twenty-four (24) hours of the panel’s final decision. In the event the initial winner cannot be contacted or does not respond to such contact within twenty-four (24) hours of notification, the initial winner will be deemed to have declined the Prize and another Participant from the Runner-Ups will be selected by drawing from the panel’s additional winning choices. The replacement Runner Up if the Grand-Prize winner cannot be contacted will be chosen randomly from the secondary pool of winners (a “Secondary Winner”), who shall also be contacted by email and have twenty-four (24) hours to respond to such contact.  This process will continue until a Participant has accepted the Prize of Grand Winner in each category. The Prize will be mailed to the winner in the following weeks after the contest has ended once the goods can be collected together. 

Winners will be announced over 10 business days, running from Monday to Friday starting on Oct. 18, 2021. The announcements will start with the 3 photo runner-ups, 4 per day in each category, with the grand prize winners on Thursday, October 21, 2021 and the popular vote on Sunday, October 24, 2021. 

The 3 video runner-ups per category will be announced starting Oct. 25, 2021, before the grand prize is revealed the following Thursday, October 28, 2021 . There is no popular vote for videos. 

Popular vote will be determined through public comments on Instagram by identifying up to 12 photos (max. 3 per category) that the Judges decide are potential runner ups. Successful candidates for the runner-up category will have Friday, Saturday and Sunday to have their network comment their photo number in an Instagram Carousel. Comments will only count per one person daily throughout the three day window.

PLT CANADA is not responsible for any inability to locate or contact an Initial Winner or Secondary Winner. PLT CANADA is not responsible for the failure for any reason whatsoever of a potential winner to receive notification or for failure for any reason for PLT CANADA to receive a potential winner’s response.

6. GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

All entries and/or Participants not complying with any of the Contest Rules will be disqualified and their Contest entries will not be considered.  The decision to disqualify any entry is at the sole discretion of PLT CANADA and will occur without notice or communication to the Participant. The decision to disqualify an entry is final and not subject to review.

No correspondence will be entered into except with the selected winner(s). The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws. The decisions of PLT CANADA with respect to all aspects of the Contest are final and binding on all participants without the right of appeal.

By entering this Contest, Participants agree to comply with these Official Contest Rules and agree to the publication, reproduction, and/or other use of their entry and their name, address, voice, statements about the Contest, social media accounts, and/or personal photograph or other likenesses without further compensation, in any publicity or advertisement carried out by PLT CANADA in any manner whatsoever, including print, broadcast, or the internet.

PLT CANADA is not responsible for late, lost, misdirected, delayed, or illegible entries. Without limitation, PLT CANADA will not be liable for the failure of any entry to be received or for any technical or other problems in the administration of the Contest.

PLT CANADA reserves the right to withdraw, terminate or amend the Contest in any way, in the event of an error, technical problem, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure, or any other cause beyond the reasonable control of PLT CANADA that interferes with the proper conduct of this Contest as contemplated by these rules. Any attempt to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, PLT CANADA reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution. PLT CANADA reserves the right to cancel or suspend this Contest in the event of any accident, printing, administrative, or other error of any kind without prior notice and without obligation.

PLT CANADA is not responsible for any error, technical problem, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure, interrupted or unavailable network, server or other connections, miscommunications, failed phone or computer hardware or software or telephone transmissions or technical failures, garbled transmissions, or other errors of any kind whether human, mechanical or electronic or any other cause beyond the reasonable control of PLT CANADA that interferes with the proper conduct of this contest as contemplated by the Contest Rules.

By entering the Contest, each Participant (a) releases and holds harmless PLT CANADA and its directors, officers, employees, affiliates, suppliers, sponsors, and agents from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind to persons or property, including death or property damage, resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any Prize, participation in the contest, or participating in any Prize related activity; and (b) agrees to fully indemnify PLT CANADA and its directors, officers, employees, affiliates, suppliers, sponsors and agents from any and all claims from third parties without limitation.

By entering this Contest, each Participant expressly consents to PLT CANADA, its agents and/or representatives, storing, sharing, and using the personal information submitted with his/her entry only for the purpose of administering the Contest and in accordance with applicable privacy law.

For Residents of Quebec:  Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (the “Régie”) for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the Régie only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement

Contest void where prohibited by law.

For the name of the winners, write to PLT CANADA at info@forests.org. Requests must be received before October 31st. The winners will also be tagged in the comments on Instagram.
